In case hospitalization is needed, the patient is kept in our kennel area where we have 4 dog kennels, 2 cat kennels and 1 terrarium for the hospitalization of exotic species. It is in our future plans to extend our kennel area into our new building and create more space for the hospitalization of our inpatients.

The existing kennels are supported and equipped with individual lighting, and heating pads.

We monitor and nurse our hospitalized animals on a 24h basis.

For the recovery from general anaesthesia, our patients are transferred into a specially designed for this purpose area of our new building. This is a recovery room, away from the main practice building, where the animals can recover from the anaesthetic in a calm and warm environement and under constant observation.

In our clinic, we can perform various surgical procedures (all routine operations, most soft tissue and basic orthopaedic). Surgical procedures are scheduled between consultation times (early afternoon or evening or Saturdays when the practice remains closed for consultations). This allows focus on all aspects of the procedure (pre anaesthetic checks, high standard of monitoring under sedation/general anaesthetic and safe recovery of the patient.

We emphasize in close monitoring of the anesthetized patient using up to date equipment (inhalational anaesthetic/oxygen machine, pulse oxymeter) but most importantly trained nursing assistants.

Our protocol for preparing the patient for the surgical procedure is as follows:

1.Thorough clinical examination and pre anesthetic blood tests are performed a few days before the operation for all sugical cases (even for routine stuff), to ensure detecting possible endemic disease ( Ehrlichiosis, Leishmaniosis, Heart Worm Disease etc) .

2.Detailed instructions are given to the owner for the fasting of the patient the day before the operation.

3.On the day of the procedure, the patient is examined again and supported with intravenous fluids, pain relief and antibiotics as needed, before entering theatre.

Owners are asked to sign a consent form prior to the anesthesia and surgical procedure.

Safe recovery from general anaesthesia is our priority and for this reason, our patients are transferred into our recovery room and closely monitored until they are fully awake. Most surgical patients remain in the practice for overnight hospitalization and monitoring and for those patients who return home on the day of the procedure we ensure full recovery before leaving the practice.

We keep records, videos and photos of nearly all our surgical cases. All this material is available to owners at any time.

At least two follow up appointments for check ups are scheduled at the time of the operation and detailed written advice for the post surgical care of the patients are given to the onwers.

We offer RADIOGRAPHY and our clinic is equipped with an up to date XRAY machine.

The XRAY machine is positioned in our theatre and all LEAD protecting equipment is available (Lead wall, Lead table mat, Gowns, Gloves, Thyroid Guard). For staff/client protection, we have performed a complete risk assessment which is repeated every 3 years by approved specialists.

The XRAY machine is positioned to allow immediate radiography of anaesthetized patients and follow up examination after orthopaedic procedures.  We make every effort to avoid manual restraint of the patient by the owner or any member of our staff.

All the xray films are kept in specific envelopes in our clinic and are always available to the owner. We also keep electronic records on our computer database which enables us to forward the xray results to the owners via email.

Apart from the radiography performed for diagnostic purposes of pathological conditions, in our clinic we perform examination and radiographic imaging for early detection of hereditary/genetic conditions such as HIP DYSPLASIA, ELBOW DYSPLASIA etc. of large breed dogs.

The option of second opinion referral to the UK or US is available in our clinic as we have a long standing agreement with Radiography and Surgery specialists in both countries, either through personal professional contact or through IDEXX TELEMEDICINE Services.

In our clinic we offer ultrasonography. This is a very useful non invasive diagnostic tool, especially in cases of pregnancy where taking xrays can be detrimental for both patient and foetuses.

Ultrasound scanning is a very simple procedure and can be performed during a routine consultation. It does not cause pain to the patient and most of the times it does not require sedation/anesthesia.

Ultrasonography can visually answer in  a variety of cases of internal organ (liver, kidneys, genital tract, heart, urinary bladder) disfunction.

We prefer performing ultrasound scans under scheduled appointments to ensure the time is taken for a thorough examination and most accurate results. In an emergency case, the procedure is performed as priority over scheduling. The animal is restrained by the owner or a nursing assistant , the body area of interest to be scanned is clipped and prepared aseptically and an ultrasonic  gel is applied on the skin.

The owner can be present during the examination and an explanation of the scan results and photo prints are provided. Copies are always kept in the practice's archive.

Our clinic is equipped with the latest and most advanced blood machines. We offer biochemistry and haematology blood analysis with our LEISER CYTE and VET TEST IDEXX blood analysers. This allows prompt results especially in emergency cases.

For more specialized blood tests (hormonological, urological, blood cultures etc), we use reliable external specialized laboratories.

For our histopathology (biopsies/mass removals) and very specific laboratory examinations, samples are taken and sent to our long standing cooperative laboratory in the UK (NATIONWIDE LEEDS LABORATORY).

For the diagnosis of endemic diseases (Leishmaniosis, Ehrlichiosis, Heart Worm disease etc), we do not perform IN HOUSE SPEED testing, as in my experience, there is a risk of unreliability and invalid results. For this purpose, we use a reliable external local laboratory which enables us to have fast, accurate and safe results.

Speed snap tests are only used for the emergency diagnosis of Parvovirus disease.

For the microscopic examination of faecal, skin, urine and blood samples, our clinic is euquipped with an up to date Microscope which is also supported by PC camera which enables the owner to observe the microscopic results.

The following video is an example of microscopic examination of a blood sample where we detected Microfilariae ( Heart Worms).

All laboratory results are kept in our clinic under electronic files and are available to owners at any time.
